Getting close to the end

Didn't post last week - oops.

Basically, this week and last week have been the same though. Getting ready for the practice presentations, writing, freaking out, and picking college.

And, yes, I'm aware that I'm supposed to know where I'm going in four days.

I've been doing some shifting around with my presentation since I had a pre-rehearsal with Dr. Williams and Ms. Dodge (thank you so much for that, it was really helpful) and have decided to focus more on the societal version of the trauma, since that seems to be the more interesting part to explain, especially since I have come to the realization that the individual is intrinsically and intimately related to the society in how it reacts and trauma, since the performance of the reaction and healing process is necessary for healing (at least in my hypothesis)

I have so many pictures from my trip to sort through.
And, I find myself doing that thing where, when you look through a set of pictures and stuff, there's some that aren't there that you're sure that you took, but aren't, and some things there that you're not sure where they came from.
 George Washington's Uniform
A park somewhere (see, I don't remember taking this one)
The Maryland Lower

These pictures don't have anything to do with my project though.

...I just thought this was getting a little wordy, but I have a lot of material to choose from for my final product.

So, final words:

I am participating in an awareness campaign called Live Below the Line, which is a challenge that many people around the world partake in, where one attempts to live on less than $1.50 of food/drink per day for five days.

The campaign is also a fundraiser (similar to they way the Jump Rope for Heart thing for elementary school students works), where money raised by individuals and those that support their endeavor to do the challenge raise money for an organization.

I am signed up to raise funds for UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund. (I hope this doesn't sound too tack) I would really appreciate any and all support as I Live Below the Line this week.

You can donate online, through PayPal by clicking 'Donate' on my Live Below the Line profile. Again, as little or as much as you want to do helps!

The song of the week is Better Days by the Goo Goo Dolls.

Ciao!

Home Again

Hi All

I'm back in Tucson as of late on Monday night. Both of my flights were behind schedule because of weather issues on the east coast. (I don't have any idea what was going on, but it was basically raining along the east coast. I've been to Portland, and it's always raining. The flights I've taken have never been late. Enough said...)

So I'm back. It's hot, it's dry, and it's brown, as could be expected, but it's good to be back again. I've been recuperating and working from home a lot this week. The jet lag has meant that I have had a much easier time staying awake early in the morning though, which I am enjoying.

A lot of work is left to do. I've got to concatenate my book, build my presentation, and then talk in front of Dr. Williams and Mr. Kittredge for practice. Honestly, that last part is the one that scares me the most.

Ooh! And I made bread pudding tonight for dessert in individual ramekins. Apricot and cranberry with lemon zest, yum! I'm really proud of the custard, because it didn't get clumpy in the oven.

So... to relate that back to the project, I have to figure out a way to fit all of the ingredients of my project together into a little portion-sized container when I feel like the thing could fit a few casserole dishes if I had enough time.

Basically, it's good to be back, I've got a lot of data and have to figure out how to deal with it, and make a presentation that doesn't make me sound like I'm impaired because I can't string sentences together that make sense. Good luck to me.

Oh. And I've got to decide where to go to college. Hurray!

This week's song is Shakira's La La La (Dare), which is the 2014 Brazil FIFA world cup song. At least, that's what the link claims, I haven't actually checked. I really love soccer and FIFA, I think because it is a world wide sport that has brought very different peoples and cultures together for years. Something that is unique in a way similar to the Olympics or Wimbledon. So, have a great week everyone. It's only a few more weeks to summer.

Ciao.

Look what I've got!?

So I was at the Library of Congress today, and guess what I got!

I got an official Library of Congress Researchers Card!!!

Sorry, I'm just so excited about it that I had to tell all you lovely people who've been reading my blog. (Thanks, by the way =) )

The Library has to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the country by the way.

And the last one is THE main reading room. And yes, there is a secret staircase in here, down where the picture doesn't show.

I guess it's not so secret anymore... since everybody knows about it... but oh well.

Originally, the staircase had a bunch of pulleys and stuff so that the librarians could bring people the books they asked for. There are literally millions of books around the buildings. The Madison Building, which has a lot less frills, stores a lot of those books.

And it's very... practical (can be read as imposing, boring, etc.) It is boring next to the Jefferson Building (which has a few hundred books from Jefferson's original collection mind you) but it is still impressive and magnificent (and huge)  on the inside.

I also went to Smithsonian Air and Space yesterday. That was fun, but for another time. I need to go to bed so...
Ciao!
